En cuanto al origen del vocablo panettone deriva de la palabra\u00a0 Panetto, que significa peque\u00f1a torta de pan. El sufijo aumentativo italiana uno (pronunciado o- ne) hace que la palabra adquiera el significado de gran pastel.<\/p>\n<p>Su consumo, durante las fiestas de Navidad y A\u00f1o Nuevo, se ha ido extendiendo por otros pa\u00edses como el sudeste de Francia, Espa\u00f1a, Portugal, Brasil, Per\u00fa, Malta, Alemania y Suiza. Adem\u00e1s, y debido a la presencia de una importante comunidad de descendencia italiana por el mundo, tambi\u00e9n se come mucho Panettone en pa\u00edses como Estados Unidos, Per\u00fa, Brasil, Argentina, Uruguay, Venezuela, Colombia, Bolivia y Chile.<\/p>\n<p>A la hora de describir el Panettone, bien podr\u00eda decirse que se trata de una golosina con base cil\u00edndrica (aunque tambi\u00e9n puede tener zona de oct\u00e1gono o de estrella), con 12\/15 cent\u00edmetros de altura y peso de un kilo. La masa aumenta tres veces su tama\u00f1o original, en un proceso que se prolonga durante veinte horas.<\/p>\n<p>Antes de ponerse a elaborar el Panettone en si, hay que mantener la masa a un proceso de curado similar a la masa madre. Esto permitir\u00e1 que la miga del dulce tenga su caracter\u00edstica textura esponjosa, a la que luego habr\u00e1 que a\u00f1adir ingredientes como naranja confitada, lim\u00f3n, (o la ralladura de su c\u00e1scara) o pasas. Incluso hay variantes a la presentaci\u00f3n lisa habitual, como cobertura de chocolate.<\/p>\n<p>El Panettone se sirve en rebanadas cortadas de modo vertical y acompa\u00f1adas con bebidas calientes o dulces (por ejemplo, los vinos Asti o Moscato d&#8217; Asti). En algunas zonas de Italia, el confite se sirve con crema di mascarpone, una crema elaborada con mascarpone, huevos, frutas confitadas y amaretto.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfY qu\u00e9 se sabe con respecto al origen del Panettone? Pues hay que remontarse al Imperio Romano, cuando los antiguos romanos endulzados un tipo de pastel de levadura con miel. Despu\u00e9s de siglos de evoluci\u00f3n \u2013por ejemplo, se muestra en un cuadro del siglo XVI por Pieter Brueghel el Viejo- el Panettone toma la forma que hoy conocemos a comienzos del siglo XX. Entonces, dos panaderos milaneses empezaron a elaborar pan dulce.
